RuriDragon, Volume 7 would be the seventh tankōbon of Masaoki Shindo’s on-going RuriDragon modern-day fantasy manga, if there were seven collections of the manga, instead of the three that there actually are. All of the issues that would comprise such a volume are in print.

Japanese teen Ruri Aoki’s classmates pitched in to help the frequently-sidelined-by-novel-draconic-abilities Ruri catch up on her schoolwork. In return, half-dragon Ruri rewards her classmates with knowledge about the draconic world. Terrible, terrible knowledge.

RuriDragon, Volume Six is the sixth (hypothetical¹) tankōbon for Masaoki Shindo’s on-going RuriDragon modern-day fantasy manga. I say hypothetical because thus far the Anglophone translations have been made available online, but only two volumes worth collected into tankōbon. I am making an educated guess as to what volume six will include, when and if it is published.

Japanese teen Ruri Aoki’s grudging effort to participate in high school life has hit a small snag. Half-dragon Ruri is aflame with an unquenchable fire.

RuriDragon, Volume Five is the fifth tankōbon for Masaoki Shindo’s on-going RuriDragon modern-day fantasy manga.

Half-dragon Ruri fully embraces the sloth she (presumably) inherited from her dragon father. Despite this, she has been strongarmed into taking a prominent role in her high school festival. To her surprise, the experience is not entirely unpleasant.

Masaoki Shindo’s RuriDragon (Japanese: ルリドラゴン, Hepburn: Ruridoragon) is a Japanese modern-day fantasy manga series. Originally a one-shot published in Shueisha’s Jump Giga magazine in December 2020, RuriDragon has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump starting in June 2022. Currently, installments appear on the Viz site. For example, issues 19 to 24, which I assume will become volume 4.

The latest revelation confronting half-human, half-dragon Ruri Aoki is that she now secretes a venom not unlike toad venom. Mildly toxic, the venom may also have psychoactive properties… to which only Ruri is exposed.

Having lost another half-day of school she can ill-afford, Ruri returns to class, only to encounter a purely mundane problem: bullying.

In the previous volume, half-dragon Ruri Aoki was genteelly blackmailed into joining a school committee. Ruri was surprised and a bit alarmed to discover that she had been paired with the blonde girl who openly dislikes Ruri. What possible cause could the girl (whose name Ruri couldn’t be bothered to remember) have for disliking Ruri? More importantly, how will learning the girl’s name affect slacker Ruri’s future actions?

Due to Shindo’s ill-health, the manga was placed on hiatus after six issues. In March 2024, new installments began appearing on the Viz website.

Ruri’s plan to sleepwalk her way through high school was complicated by the appearance of two razor-sharp horns on her head, the unexpected discovery midclass that she sometimes breathes fire, that she heals surprisingly quickly, and Ruri’s mother’s off-handed revelation that the three previous discoveries are due to the fact that Ruri’s father is a dragon.

Having come to terms with fire-breathing and the horns, Ruri is confronted with another unexpected draconic ability.
